Unique Frozen Food (M) Sdn. Bhd. started their business at 2001 and it’s a company with profits of millions ringgit per annum. But it all started with one simple purpose: make own products to fulfil the supply.

The story started when a young couple Ms. Tan Chwee Ean and Mr. Lee Chin Teong set up the Unique Frozen Trading company in Penang, when she works as a sales person and he work as a Deliveryman in 1996, and did their trading and supplies to hotels, restaurants, and caterers in daytime. While at night, they Sold Lok-Lok or Yong Tau Foo in Chai Leng Park, Butterworth

Their hard work rewards them with good sales, but accompanied by a serious problem: the suppliers were unable to fulfil their needs for the quantity of the sales, and this makes Ms. Tan Chwee Ean come out with an idea: to produce their own product. So, she opened up the product to observe the ingredients, then create her own recipe.

Ms. Tan Chwee Ean and Mr. Lee Chin Teong start the production in 1998 with only 5 workers including them, and produce spring rolls and curry samosa 1998.

“It was a total time of 3 years and nine months.” she recalled, in that time period, and said that at those moment, both of them are just following the same routine day by day and without going anywhere. “It feels like released from the jail” she said. But the result is rewarding, they gain over twenty thousand of cash flow to run their business.

In 2001 they set up another company Unique Frozen Food (M) Sdn. Bhd. to further enhance their business, and in 2005, company sales were boost up to 200%, until now, the company yearly revenue reach 13 Million Ringgit. And the leading product was their chicken roll.

When talk about how the company opened up the hotel line sales, Ms. Tan Chwee Ean told that at first, she was not really understanding in English since most of the chef in hotel restaurant are foreigners during that time, and being questioned why sent in the products since that is no order, with the confidence of her own products, she told them give it a try, and It’s on the house, the story? she wins the sales.

“It is really important you step out the first step” she said, then added “I guaranteed my customer, if the product is not delicious, return them and tell us, we will accept it and make improvements, this is how we getting better and better.”

To meet the requirements of their clients’ needs like hotels, restaurants cafes, Super Markets and Hyper Markets, they applied the certification from Jakim and MesTI (Makanan Selamat Tanggungjawab Industri), and was awarded the MeSTI Certificate in 2017 and the HALAL certificate in 2018.

In the near future, Unique Frozen Food (M) Sdn Bhd’s target is to achieve their yearly revenue from 13 million Ringgit to 20 million Ringgit, the short-term big mission is to step in to overseas market.

What makes Unique Frozen Food (M) Sdn Bhd made decide to step in the oversea market is from an exhibition in Guang Zhou few years back, the taste of the product was widely accepted, and was praised that this is the safe food to and it’s a premium product. this Inspired us to step in the oversea market.

In order to achieve the short-term target which is open up the oversea market, we are currently applying the SGS fssc22000 Food Safety Systems Certification, the highest level of the food safety certificate. And the review of the application is in progress now, the whole progress will take about a year to complete, therefore at the end of 2022 or early 2023, we will start penetrate the oversea market.

The ultimate target for Unique Frozen Food (M) Sdn Bhd is to go listing, but this is the long-term target and now we are on our way to achieve it.
